Canna Do Attitude
Sony A700
Minolta 100mm macro
ISO 400, 1/400 @ f5.6

These are my favorite cannas. I like the leaves and the flowers so tried to capture a comp with both. At a smaller f-stop I felt like there was a bit too much definition in the BG leaves. All comments welcome.>=))>

Bill:
The texture and color of the petals are exquisite. I also like you choice of DOF to give just enough outline to the leaves. Very well done.

Beautiful canna. Excellent comp with the bloom juxtaposed against the BG leaves. Perfect exposure and detail in the flower and BG leaves.

Strong comp as always Bill and for me the dof decision is perfect - just the right amount of detail on the leave to make it interesting but not have it compete with the subject. This should be in a photography text demonstrating effective dof decision. Color is rich and the detail on the flower is excellent. It's a beautiful image.

I think you found the perfect DOF for this Bill! I think the leaf has just enough detail to make it an interesting, yet secondary component to the real star of the show. Nice colors and details in the blossom!

Like this alot, Bill. You did a tasteful job with the dof so that this is very artistic documentary.

Lovely colouring and textures, Bill - and I love the composition, which allows you almost to feel the growth of the flower as it reaches for the light.

Fantastic compromise to get that background with the leaves, Bill. I have tried my hand at this flower a couple of times, but without much success. Really like the drooping petal, portion of the center showing and of course the vibrant Oranges.

I really like how the pattern in the leaf works with the pattern in the flower. My eye is drawn to the flower and then right to the leaf and holds the focus. The detail in the flower is wonderful and the overall comp works quite nicely in my opinion.

Beautiful image! I love the color and the posture of the flower. If I might be so bold to suggest.. I think the petal color could use a little more "punch" in the highlights. Just a wee bit. And if it were mine, I might also add about 1/8 inch of black to the right side of the canvas.. it feels like it needs a little more air on that side. But that's just MHO.
