4th of July Light Show

I spent the 4th of July skiing at Mammoth Mountain and stop for sunset in the Mojave desert on my way home. The afternoon thunderstorm was beginning to clear and the sun broke through the clouds on the horizon, causing the whole desert to glow. The rain also brought out the colors in the pink volcanic rocks. I didn't make it home in time for the fireworks, but I enjoyed the natural light show instead.
Thanks and comments welcome,
Rudy

Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time and be ready to click the shutter. Awesome light show and well captured.

A fantastic capture. The double rainbow is just excellent against those clouds.

That is one incredible light show. When I see a scene such as this it always reminds me that Nature isn't putting on this show for our benefit, but rather that the fact that so many humans find a scene like this so amazingly beautiful speaks to how deeply connect we are to Nature and how delighted we are when there is a show such as this. Really, we're like children whose parents are giving them a treat when something like this happens, and that pretty much defines the relationship quite well.

Wild sky... looks like you did as well as you could with a foreground counterpoint...

Way to create a super cool effect using the rainbows, looks like they're radiating out of that tiny joshua tree. Looks of great drama and color here too. I do wonder if the cyan is too overpowering in the sky, but it does give it a "4th of July" type of feel. If it were mine I would address the cyan, but no one else has said anything so maybe its just me. Anyway, awesome capture....way better than any lame fireworks!

Excellent shot Rudy. Very representative of a desert storm in the Mohave. No nits or suggestions from me.

Thanks for the comments everyone, they're greatly appreciated.

Jake, I had a hard time with the WB on this one. I'll have to go back and play with it some more.
Thanks,
Rudy

Terrific light show. I love how you've caught the rainbow following the shape of the clouds and where you placed the cactus.

Rudy,

Just simply beautiful, There's something really special when you get illuminated Rain or Virga. You showed some sense not scramblim' about looking for a foreground to match the stellar sky. This image is all bout the starkness of the desert it's need for rain and that spectacular light.

Fenomenal moment of light, absolutely stunning image. The rainbow it's just in the right place, and the contrast of cold/warm colors works rally well.

Well done! :toast:
