Another plumeria bloom. The little tree keeps producing these and I hate to miss photographing them. Not really a 4th of July image but happy 4th to all of you anyway.

I've got to get to Nick's to see if there are any more!
Gary, Ram,
This is actually one of Terri's small vases. It's black. Gary, I'm pleased you thought it was leaves. I thought it had an organic feel that worked with the bloom.
Morris,
There were three or four trees at Nick's three weeks ago. Neither Terri nor I had ever seen one before. Well, maybe we have. We lived in Hawaii for nearly a year and a half but I don't think either one of us really remembers it. (smile)

Cheers.
These plumeria blooms are wonderful subjects. It's like they're made of opal to begin with, so it's hard to get a bad image of one. I did use a gold reflector in this image because of the black vase and I think that might have given the color some richness that wouldn't have been there otherwise. Processing was mostly darkening, desaturating and then playing with the Orton process. I did spend some time trying to get the highlights to shine but without being blown. I used LR levels for that.
Fabio,
On my uncalibrated Mac the light on the vase looks right but given some of the comments, I suspect it's too dark. I guess I'm going to need to break down and go to a separate standing monitor that I can calibrate instead of using my MacBook 17 monitor. I really hate to do that though, I like being able to do all my work on this laptop, on my lap. Thank you for the suggestion. I appreciate it.
