Electricity

Hi all,

The Spiderwort is one of the most unique flowers I have ever worked with. The colors are extremely vivid, with wild patterns and they only open for a few hours in the morning before completely closing up. This was shot I took from late last Summer when they were at their peak. They are now finally blooming again and I can't wait to see what new patterns they show off. I cloned out some of the small yellow pollen that offset the balance, applied some dodge and burn and stacked 3 images for select DoF.

C&C welcome and thanks for viewing.

Some nice magnification there, Morgan  - those stripy threads resolve at higher magnifications. Yellow on Blue is always a winner and this one is no exception.

Love the color Morgan. Also the pov. My only reservation is the oof oragenish/yellow anthers? at the top of the subject against the black bg and the other one on the viewer's left. Because of their color and isolation, my eye goes right to the top one and when I see that it's not in sharp focus I head for the other one, which is also out of focus. After that I go to the front but even though the front anther is in sharp focus, my eye keeps drifting back to the top anther. I never really find a place to rest the eye. This is not a critical analysis, it's just a blow by blow of my focus of attention wandering around in the image. (smile) Regardless, it's a neat subject and a striking image.

It is very electric as presented. It would be fun to see this with a bunch of stacks to give great DOF.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions everyone!

Pat - Your suggestion about the anthers is very interesting and will definitely keep that in mind when I start working with them again this week.
Peter - That's something I was going to try with the next one.

Wonderfully dynamic effect, Morgan, with just marvellous colour combinations. I don't know whether it would have been easy ( or desirable ? ) to get all the anthers sharp; that might be my only nit re a truly eye catching image.

Morgan:
A very engaging image with good details and strong colors. The orange anthers does not distract me much and the sharp stigma tends to anchor the image. I might darken the white/green base of the flower a little.

The contrast of cold blue and warm yellow of a Spiderwort is unique. A beautiful photo of a beautiful flower, Morgan.
Take care.
