Chukar

When you're lucky enough to catch one of these birds just as the sun is coming up they'll sometimes let you get unusually close, as was the case here. Even had to take off the tc, which is fairly unusual for me.

I considered removing the dark spot on the rock at frame edge, middle bottom but in the end... didn't.

7D, 1/1250, f/6.3, ISO 640, 500 f/4, shot from pickup window on 6/22/11, full frame, small exposure adjustment in ACR, sharpened bird and perch, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, not set up or baited

Ron: This works really well. The early morning light is great. i really like the slightly OOF vegetation in the background. It seems to help create some real depth for this image.

A lovely image as posted. I'm jealous that you've got these birds in Utah while I don't get to see them here.

Gorgeous light on the bird with a nice comp, bg and detail. I like the open bill. I once saw one of these here in Pa; an escapee from a hunting preserve. REally nice photo! Sharon

Ron, This is quite beautiful. Love the light and the somewhat discernible BG seems just right. I probably would have removed the black bit but then again why?

Great work as always. :toast:

Wow, Ron excellent shot and what a wonderful pose. Everything works on this one, angle of light, pose, detail, colors, open beak and background, one of the best Chukar images I have seen, the larger image was a pleasure to view, way to go.

Ron, stellar detail as always. Love this bird and the perch. But for me, the BG makes this shot. Love the closer flowers as they retain some detail and then the distant smooth BG. A really wonderful shot. Sure with I could see AI in the summer.

Beautiful calling shot, Ron. Wish I could get some of these guys again. We had quite a few of them north of town a couple of years ago, but I haven't seen them since. I like this one as is.

I like the wary look that he's giving you. It looks like he trusts you just enough to keep calling though.... Very nice, Ron. Your usual impeccable techs. :toast:

What gorgeous lighting, I dream of such scenarios! Beautiful composition Ron, and the detail in the plumage and clarity of the eye are simply superb, very well done :^)

I would just like to even see one of these Ron...let alone get an awesome image like this of one. Great colors, detail and exposure as expected from you. I don't mind the darker area of the rock at all....most rocks are not a single color anyway.
