Jurassic Coast

Gallery: LandscapePosted June 27, 2011362 views23 comments
I discovered this bay one year ago and since then I have returned to try new approaches. This time I went for a Black & White Jurassic interpretation in a long exposure with the nice cooperation of a static seagull.

This image will be another one to print in 60x90 for the big Expo in Portugal (please see my previous image).

Your feedback will be much appreciated.

Very nice tones and luminosity of the water surface. I bet this one makes a great print on some fine art paper at that size. Good luck with the Expo.

Yes, a really impressive bay, lots of drama and tension, working very well in BW..

This looks wonderful to me. I think the composition is very sound and all of your post-processing decisions have paid off nicely. The lone gull adds a nice touch too.

This is a great BW Pedro, I wish I could see that 60x90. The seagull is a great touch, and should be even better in a large print.

Pedro,

I think the very long exposure works really well here. The Composition is very strong and the B and W processing seems spot on! I love the mood of this image and would love to see a print :) Great Job!

Wonderful work and spectacular scene, and a great subject for black and white. I wonder if it would have been possible to step to the left or right a bit to move the bottom group of rocks off center and change the spacial relationships of the graphical elements a bit so that the image wouldn't seem quite as symmetrical (not that it is overly so).

Very dramatic and beautifully processed. The inclusion of the gull in the composition is icing on the cake. Beautiful work!

Ok friends, when I print this one for the Expo I'll send Easyjet tickets to see this one on the wall :wavey:

About the composition: this place is very dificult to access and I guino this composition is near the best we can achieve on that Spot.

Pedro,

I'm being pulled in two different directions. One direction is that this is dramatic and one fantastic b&w presentation. And I would have no critique other than a fantastic seascape. The other direction has me more cynical and thinking that way too much burning and dodging is going on. I have no idea what went in to this image, but the results I think can be interpreted in different ways. From a creative, artistic point of view, I love it. And that's what I'll stick with!

A moody and dramatic presentation that conveys the awesomeness of the location. Great conversion.

Lon,

Yes, this one has some strong dodge and burn, I love strong BW conversions and this one deserve it.
Actualy I don't care to much if the images may be "real" or not, my artistic vision and feeling give the "rules" :wavey:

I love everything about this one: the comp, the mood, the lighting. Only nit would be the halos around the peaks.

Hi Pedro - I love the dark, mysterious mood here. The composition has a lot of interest and I like the processing a lot. It would be great to see this in person at the large size you mention above. The seagull is a nice touch, too.

Wow...60x90 is huge!

The BW looks great for this image Pedro, but I'm seeing a slight haloing around the center stack. Could just be the clouds?

The gull is a nice touch.

Very cool b and w shot Pedro. I really like the contrasts here. The sharp and pointy rocks look great against the smooth water and sky. The tones underline that as well. good stuff.

Thank you all for your feedback.

I'll rework some haloing in this one before print.
