Single Pansy in a Bowl
by Bob Duff
Here's the second in the series of working images in a higher key based on the methods Harold Davis uses of mutliple images and blending them together.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions on my previous image of a bowl of pansies. A few suggested having an all white BG and/or not having the rim of the bowl showing. I tried both ways and found the results too sterile for my tastes.
Thanks for looking at this single pansy and I appreciate all comments. It's a great way to learn.

8 commentsOnce again, this is as fine a treatment of a pansy as I've seen and I've spent hours working them after scanning - with no result anywhere near this appealing to me. The bowl isn't working here for me though. It doesn't seem to me to complement the flower or contrast with it. You've already said that the space alone is too sterile. In that case I might consider putting the flower on a different bg - gradient, glass, paper, something like Beane's Murano glass or even black. Even shoot another bowl maybe and layer the pansy in.
I wouldn't be so emphatic about it, if I didn't like the flower so much. (smile) But it may just be the way I'm seeing it too.

Take care.
The bowl is not working for me. The Pansy id good but lacks a little of the luminous look of your previous post which I think is a little stronger.
