Plitvice

I just got back from traveling in Croatia and one of the highlights was the Plitvice National Park. The river flows through the native limestone and forms natural travertine barriers, creating a series of small lakes with water cascading from one lake to the other as both rolling streams and dramatic waterfalls. Due to the ever-changing mineral content, the lakes can be blue, green, turquoise, and everything in between. Absolutely spectacular! This was my first serious attempt at any flowing water/waterfall images and I came away with several images I'm really happy with. C and c welcome!

Welcome to NPN Phil. I like the shot a lot and the colors and scene are well balanced. Excellent work for your first attempt at shooting water. Certainly, this is suffering from lack of sharpening. There are plenty of tutorials on that here or if you can't find what you are looking for - shoot me an email. Looking forward to seeing more.

Hi Phil - Welcome to NPN! I really like the curve of the stream through the image and the greens are quite nice. I agree with Michael about the sharpening. Some sharpening for web could help make this image pop.

Phil,

I missed your first post here so I'd like to welcome you to NPN and the Landscape gallery on your second post.

This is a lovely cascade image; nicely composed and the tumbling stream moves nicely through the scene. There's a nice balance too between the flowing water and the surrounding landscape and vegetation. Exposure is right on and I like the water treatment.

Hard to judge the web sharpness at this size. This could also be suffering from jpg compression. and considering the amount of detail in this image, I imagine the jpg quality slider had to go pretty low to get this to the web. So, I think you have a combination of sharpening and data loss issues - although they are not major ones that I can see.

thanks for posting and we look forward to your images and participation. Jump right in, the water's fine!

Phil, I like the way you captured the flow of the water. The creek leads me into the depth and I can explore and enjoy all the beautiful surroundings.

I think the minor lack of sharpness in the foliage might be due to motion blur on a windy day; it does not disturb me at all, as the shutter speed is perfectly chosen for me regarding the water.

Thanks for the feedback, gents! I think the sharpness issue is a combination of all the things you've pointed out. Definitely some motion blur in the nearest tree leaves. The small size, jpg conversion, and detail in the background I think are all factors as well. I'm working on several others from this spectacular location (with my limited and feeble PP skills), trying to avoid the ones that are too "postcard-y".

Thanks for the generous welcome! I've been lurking for a while and am inspired by the amazing images here. Looking forward to joining the community.

Thanks!

Phil
