Serenity: a disposition free from stress or emotion, the absence of mental stress or anxiety.

Nature can be a great healer to us. When viewing magnificent creations, we lose worries and stress. I neurotically drove around because I knew the clouds were finally breaking after a long few days of cloudy weather. I didn't have much time to when I pulled off here and set up. Nothing special here, straight forward pano. The light changed a lot and I caught and I snapped away. Even in these times my worries seemed dim. Work, life, and other stresses we cling to washed away with every passing second. The winds carried them away. My only regret is the wife stayed behind this evening. I rented a little cabin by the lodge before our long trip out. She stayed in while I took off for the evening shoot. It was a nice moment to finally get some classic light on those peaks.

Thanks again for your time and comments

This is beautiful, Anthony. The soft light really makes the image shine and you are right--this is very serene. I can picture this one on a wall with a couple similar SW style serene images as part of a series. Well done!

Anthony, the light in this very nice with good shadow detail. I'd like to see the high values punched up a bit and the sky near the horizon is oversaturated and/or has a bit too much cyan. You might want to play around with it some more.

Yes, the pano certainly has a lot more to offer than the portion shown here. The calm and colors are quite worthwhile in the eyes of a viewer, but it sounds as if the creation of this photo was just as much for you're own sake as anything else.

This is very nice Anthony. Love all the detail here and the jagged rocks are impressive...

Anthony,

The pano is killer - but this little slice ain't bad either! I'm really liking the soft light here. Did you mention where this is? The Badlands?

Processing wise, the sky is a bit electric to me, especially the blue. It's a pretty color for sure, but a little unrealistic; mostly along the ridgeline.

I'm with you on the wind carrying the stress away. All but for a brief few moments anyway....

Cool, Anthony! Simple but effective. Colors look good to me, the blues usually are pretty intense with this kind of light. Maybe a bit more light on the formations would have been prefect but then maybe the sky wouldnt be as nice--so ill give it an unequivocal thumbs up!

Very nice Anthony. I was just looking at the panoramic and that is fantastic. This single image is nice but the 4 image stitch is a must look here. Beautiful work!

Sorry folks, haven't had a chance to check in. Thanks for your comments. Regarding color, I can't vouch for my monitor accuracy. I typically don't over saturate shots and thought this was darn close to how I witnessed the scene. I'll try toning the cyans down and see if it makes a difference. The colors were pretty nice throughout the cycle of sunset.
I know its not mind blowing but I enjoyed the moment of peace here.

My wife also wanted me to clarify that she didn't want to stay behind but rather just showered up and I ran out the door. She needed some rest as we hiked a lot.

Thanks again for your feedback. I appreciate it.

I know where not supposed to post extra pics but I thought this would show the change of light. I did get a pano of this light as well. Same frame up as far as straight on composition goes but drastically different light.
Its amazing how much it can change......instantly

This comp was 8:16 pm and the original post was 8:23 pm

I actually prefer the softer light and the pano looks great. Agree that it can be really wonderful losing one's self to the light.

I love the subtle, subdued light on the rock forms Anthony. Very soothing. The blues in the sky seem a little intense but I was not there. Beautiful none the less.

Hi Anthony - All three of these images offer something to enjoy. The Badlands are an under-appreciated landscape and I think you have captured them so beautifully. I like the simple composition of the first image and find the strong blues to complement the scene well. I also really like the image you presented below and the pano is exceptional (composition, lighting, everything!).
