Lupins in Vase

Was doing some pruning in the garden and thought the "cuttings" might make a nice arrangement. Then I thought maybe a photo. So here are the results of my efforts.

Canon 5D MkII 90mm T/S f16

All comments and critiques most appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Glad you pruned your garden and you had the lupines to add to this arrangement. LIke the right hand side of the arrangement, but seems a little too heavy on the left. I'm no expert on flower arranging so take any suggestions with a grain of salt. Also think the vibrance/saturation is a bit over done. Notice I haven't posted any of my lame attempts at flower arranging, but right now nothing is blooming.

Well Bob I'm impressed. I like the composition. I also like the petal on the table and the container. In particular, I like the light. On my MacBook the color looks good to me. My only reservation is the variegated leaves with the solids. I don't know that there's anything wrong with this, I just think I would prefer a solid leaf with the blooms. I think you've done a remarkably fine job here.

For a flower arrangement handicapped person like me, it looks great, Bob  . Lighting looks pretty cool too. I am not sure the grouping of leaves dropped near the vase on the table adds much though but OTOH, a smaller branch of Lupine on the right might have attracted me more.

Bob: Between you, Pat and Gary the overall level of these kind of shots on the gallery is going off the scale. I'm not going to over analyze this because I think the overall effect is spectacular. It popped my -meter hard. Great colors and IMO a fantastic arrangement and presentation. >=))>

Very cool arrangement! Variety is great, including the bent dry vine. Leaves me wanting a large version to enjoy more details. My only minor nit is the reddish bark of the twig looks like a long exposure receiving lot or red light bounce from the lupine. I might desaturate it. Well balanced....vase is nifty...want to see more coming out of dark to figure out its shape... Like that hosta leaf which looks like it's part of the vase. Ken S

Bob:
The photography is first rate; great lighting, rich color rendition, clarity and rendition.
I like the upper portion of the arrangement with the curvy twig and lupines. The lower portion looks a little crowded. The hosta leaf is fine but I am not sure of the variegated leaves. Bearing in mind that I am looking at the arrangement for the minimalist view point of Ikebana and this may not be applicable to what you want to achieve though. BTW love the eclectic container and hope you do more of this.

Beautiful composition and lighting. If I have any nit at all, it would be that I might like a little more room at the bottom.

Wow, Bob -- The thumbnail just SHOUTS, demanding my attention. I don't know anything about flower arranging, but to me this looks like a wonderful combination of the rich complexity of nature and the simplicity of carefully-controlled minimalist composition. I know you must have taken pains to arrange this perfectly, but it seems to me to show how the complexity (some would call it chaos, but it really is not) of a rich habitat can give rise to the kinds of simple designs that inspire the arrangements of Asian art.

What a fantastic result from your garden discards. Colors are so vibrant and the whole arrangement just pops off the black BG. Very creative flower arranging and great resulting picture!

These arrangements are over the top. If I try putting more than one bloom in anything, nobody recognizes it. I like this as is.
