Most people don't care for these but they are a part of nature. So I put them in the best light i could.

Todd, I think I would have rather seen this in color to be able to sort out what this was a picture of. As it is it feels quite busy and contrasty. If you have a color shot, you could then emphasize some of the caterpillars and/or colorings through processing to make an interesting comp. Great idea though and you're right that they are a part of nature. I used to love collecting these when I was a kid. We would try to see how many we could collect in our jar. Yuck!

Carolyn, thanks for the comment. I will try and do a repost because I think there is something there as far as patterns but I couldn't seem to come up with anything so I went with the chaos feel of an abstract. Guess it didn't work because not many comments. O'well if you don't experiment you will never learn anything.

Todd, I am happy what you did because it is the only way to learn. I agree wit Carolyn and I would love to see a repost.
I just wonder what lens you used. And I am interested to know why you used aperture f/32. With almost all lenses on dslr's the image starts getting unscharp from f/11 upwards because of diffraction. Sometimes f/16 to f/22 can be workable as a compromise, but by f/32 you will loose a whole lot of image quality. Keep posting.

Great abstract of these pesky tent worms Todd. I've been around these my whole life and they never bothered me much like they do most people. I've played around with photographing them but never had much luck. I think what you did here works great, it's full of lines and wonder. The image is interesting to look at the reality of what it is is more of an after thought. Well done, I like your creativity. :toast:
