Liatris, AKA Blazing-star, Gay-feather is a genus of ornamental plants in the Asteraceae family, native to North America, Mexico, and the Bahamas. These plants are used as a popular summer flowers for bouquets.
Was out looking for bugs, so I snapped a few of this new bud in our garden while I was in the vicinity :)
F/11, 1/500th, ISO 500, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 and morning light around 11:00am

Howard: Nicely seen even if there aren't any critters on it. I like seeing the varied stages of the blooms. Well done.>=))>

Howard:
Very bold and bright pink against the green bg. Even if there is not bug on this bloom, the web indicates at least it had been visited by one. A matter of timing and luck with critters

Love the rich color against the bg Howard. I'm fine with critter as well. I might sharpen this a touch more. It looks a little soft to me. I can't tell that it's a plane of focus problem or dof but I'd expect the spikes to be sharper. It's no big deal. It's a beautiful image regardless and the bg couldn't be better for it.

Nice grouping there, Howard  - great front to back DOF as well. I see the Beetle after reading your post, at first glance did not notice it.
