We have a bunch of these guys at our lake. My wife saw 13 at one time crowding her feeders so of course I had to try for some images. I caught this as he was eying some grape jelly. C and C welcome.

1D4, 500f4 + 1.4x, sio 800, 1/400, f5.6, some canvas added to left, then cropped to 5:4 proportions

I like the colours and the BG. The bird is very sharp. The out of focus perch is somewhat distracting. Cropping some of it out maybe would help.

Gorgeous shot. I love these, but have never been able to get a decent shot of one at eye level. Sounds like a feeding station is a good idea (grape jelly eh).

I love the pose here, and the bird is very sharp. Love the background too, but have to agree about the perch. Being so close to the head, the soft portion of the branch does tend to catch the eye. Still I'd be happy to have this in my files.

I like the vivid colors against the dark BG and the alignment of the angles of the bird and the perch. :toast:

Keith, very interesting pose. Also love the colors and the silky BG. This might also look very cool as a vertical pano.

I too like the colors and ready-to-strike pose of the bird. The soft bg is quite complimentary. I also agree that the oof portion of the perch is a bit distracting, mostly I think because it is so distinctly different in sharpness from the bird. If you selectively sharpened the bird and not the entire perch you might want to try sharpening the bird & entire perch to see if that changes things. But that distraction is not much - a very enjoyable shot.
