Red Tailed Hawk

Found him on a tree stump in a city park. Expected him to fly & prepared for a flight shot, but he let me get to within 15ft. Eventually dived away from me & took a mouse into a large tree.
Early morning. Canon 7D, Canon 400 mm 5.6 lens,!/1600, f 7.1, ISO 500. Some cropping both sides, some PS exposure adjustment.

This hawk is sure large in the full frame: you were really close to this one all right, Roger. There is quite a lot of shadow in the image and that does conceal some detail. However, this is a pretty menacing looking bird. So, the resulting dark mood of the image fits that very well. I like the bg too. Impressive shot.

It is, indeed, an impressive shot. While, as Steve mentions, the belly of the bird is in shadow, there is still good detail present - the detail in the protruding white feather for example. And the head, wind-blown (?) feathes and red tail are all in good light. :toast:

Hi Roger,
Great job approaching this Red-tailed so closely. The detail looks very good and I like the wind blown feathers. My only suggestion would be too add a little more space on the right if you have it and take a little bit off the left. :toast: :toast:

Really intense look on the hawk, like the background also. Nice work.
