First, let me apologize for my lack of participation. I had a long battle with my computer, and I think I may have finally prevailed. I have been lurking on my i-pod and I have to say how amazing the quality of work has been around here! You artists never cease to amaze me with your creativity.

This delicate Wild Iris seems to be living life on the edge next to these thorns.

5d, 28-135mm w/macro, tripod, shutter release, polarizer,

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

Morris: Great to hear you have emerged victorious in the cyber wars  Really nice find and I like how you arranged the elements in the frame. Great to have you back aboard. >=))>

Welcome back - I was expecting to a big wide angle landscape with a lone flower magnified as the foreground  . Glad to see that your battle was finally won.

Nice photo to begin your account here again. Spikes go well with the soft Iris.

Nice to see you back, Morris, and to hear of your victory !! Lovely image to return with - the setting and the placement of the flower really does stress the delicacy of this iris.

aka "Beauty and the Beast." I guess growing in this location is one way to avoid getting picked or eaten. Perfect DOF for showing the flower amid the imposing thorns.

Cool shot, Morris. Positioning the plane of focus to get just the front petal and a thorn in focus really concentrates attention on the essential elements. Makes me feel close, but unwilling to reach in there, so the title is perfect.

Aptly title. Great concept and execution. The DOF is just right to show the menacing thorns in the bg.

Good to have you back Morris. Glad you won your fight. Mine's been going on for forty years now and still in doubt. (smile)

Love the composition in this. The dof and subsequent bg makes the image as far as I'm concerned. Very creative photography.

I like the knife-edge raw beauty of this. A wild iris...among yawning thorns...waiting for the unwary viewer. The dof showing the pointy end of that thorn with the bloom is perfect. Maybe giving a tad more room left and right would give more prominence to the thorn....the brighter center works well.

Welcome back to planet NPN Morris! I don't know about you but I have a love/hate relationship with all things digital.
I Iike the image overall but I'm unsure about the DOF. It's in that "in between" area, not sharp throughout (obviously intentional) and perhaps the bg not quite blurry enough. Of course these things are always purely subjective.
