Clingman's Dome, Great Smoky Mountains NP

It took three tries before I was able to shoot a sunset at Clingman's; the first two times the top of the mountain was engulfed in a cloud with visibility of about 30 feet. On this evening the sidewalk by the parking lot was lined with tripods and most people seemed to be shooting directly into the sun, which wasn't doing it for me. I started playing with compositions off to the side and I really dug the light/darkness theme happening here so I went with it!

Fantastic layers Taylor! The silhouetted mountains and color are gorgeous. Good thing you turned the other way.

This is very nice Taylor. The colors look great and I like the depth created by the atmospheric haze and backlighting. I also like how there is a diagonal gradient in the image (bright ULC to dark LRC).

Taylor,

Ditto on the layer theme. This is beautifully successful; love the warmth and the glow emanating from the valleys. Excellent.

I absolutely love it. Great comp and tones. I too have experienced the Clingman's Dome cloud-shroud...way too often.

Hi Taylor - the diagonal gradient from light to dark is great! The layers are great and help make this a quite interesting image.
