Hare in Wonderland

This Varying (Snowshoe)Hare surprised me on my walk in the woods yesterday by my office. It burst out from where it was resting, and ran about 50 ft away before stopping. So I managed to sneak up on it and get a couple of frames before it took off again. You can just barely see some long white hairs left from its winter coat.

The day was overcast, and I was in fairly heavy cover. With the 400 f5.6 that meant shooting at ISO6400 handheld to get anything decent.

thanks for looking

Canon 5D MkII, canon 400 f5.6, handheld, available light.

Robert, the title is perfect for this image. I love the look through the trees. I might crop a bit off the right so that the right OOF tree is a little less powerful in the image but still leaves room the the unseen part of the hare.

Love it as it is ! The framing and perspective are intimate and for that high an ISO the colours have come out great. You carry your 400 f5.6 to your office ?

You must have been a Boy Scout, always prepared! A great shot, I really like the lighting, and as others have said the DOF and sharpness are excellent.

I quite like the habitat setting Robert. The IQ also looks very good at this size despite the high ISO. What I would suggest to improve this further is to tone down the bright BG and the bright green leaves in front of the hare.
