Went to my favourite pond at HK Park to shot dragonflies for the first time this season and came off with the shot I have been wanting to do for some time. Saw a couple of red skimmer mating in mid air. When I got set up, they had de-coupled and the female was skimming over the water surface oviposting with the male hovering around to make sure that no other males cut in. Tried to get the female oviposting but none of the pictures were any good. However I did get one which I am happy with of it flying over the water surface.

D90 300mmF4, F4 1/1000sec iso500 using tripod for lose support, 50% crop. Thanks for looking and C&C appreciated.

Excellent flight shot, with nice detail and pleasant BG (usually difficult to obtain with this kind of shot)- Very well done, Fabio

Great flight shot, Gary. I'm trying to get one of these, too, but it makes my head spin trying it. :)

A spectacular photo in my opinion. Getting a DF sharp throughout its head and body, IN FLIGHT, well just simply spectacular. Background is excellent but I've found that is easier than with birds. :wavey:

I recently read in a macro book that getting a good picture of a dragonfly in flight is the "holy grail of macro photography". It looks like you've found the holy grail, Gary! Great BG and good detail on the body. Wonderful capture!
