Frog on a Log

This afternoon I ventured into the woods near my house hoping for some warblers. I was mildly successful, but remembered there was a nice location to photograph green frogs nearby so I tried my luck. This spot is sort of cheating because it's an old concrete foundation for something or other next to a pond - it's about 3 feet by 2 feet and a couple feet deep and always has some water and sticks in it which the frogs seem to love. I guess you could call them semi-captive, though they are truly wild subjects.

Nikon D300s 105mm f/2.8 VR HH
f/4.5
1/40s
ISO 200
-.67 EC

Cropped to 75%, sharpened using Smart Sharpen, some minor cloning to clean up the image all in CS5 on 27" iMac

Clear and sharp at the eye/head Luke.
It's a great comp & POV, perfect use of this short DOF:toast:

I love it. The eye is gorgeous, and the softness of the rest of the image keeps our attention right where it belongs. This is a beautiful shot. Well done, Luke!

Interesting comp, Luke. The background works well, and the stick leading you into the frame is a nice element. The shallow DOF works to keep your attention on the head, but my personal preference would have been to see more of this little guy in focus.

Luke:
Like the pose in this frog. Good sharp focus on the eyes. Amazing that the frog let you get so close; u didn't kiss it by any chance
