Bleeding Heart

The long dreary grip of winter is finally giving way to flowers and greenery. Because it has been so grey, I needed color...hey, you need color...well, this shot has it! Double-dosage of saturation! Enjoy.

Zeiss 35 mm, f2, handheld Nikon D300.

Love the leading line and the color ken. Also the darkness of course. Outstanding composition for my tastes and a beautiful image.

Ken, this is really pretty. Beautiful colors and light, and I really like the composition. It's hard to tell how different the planes were, but did you try any different f stops to get a little more focus on the flower to the left of those that are in focus?

I really like the circular effect and selective focus. Beautiful!

Yes, it's colorful. Frame-filling color that jumps off the screen (although parts of the image may cross into photo art territory). I like it. I also really like the comp with the receding, staircasing bleeding hearts and the two perfect green leaves up front.

Hey Ken, I know how you feel, it's taking for ever for stuff to pop here in SE Michigan. About two weeks behind, but finally things are starting to pop. Very nice image, like the lineup of hearts.

Thanks for the comments! Barbara, I did try different f-stops...f2 to f22...but, the selection of just one heart seemed to be most pleasing. I did not try to isolate and selectively focus a rear heart (the one on left)...mainly due to the effect of almost being able to touch the closest bloom and its presentation turned perfectly to the camera.

Mike, my wife got out the annual bloom charts...we are a full three weeks behind. ...so much rain and gloom, even Seattlites born and raised w/web feet are sick of it this winter.

Ian, yes...I added vignetting to heighten the contrast and center the focal point....including a bit of blue on the edge while warming the center.

Ken, this is a beautiful image. The bleeding hearts I've seen in the forests out here are no where near as healthy looking. I think they are too beat up by the rain. Like you said in your last comment, we are getting very tired of it. I beleive this is going down as Seattle area's wettest spring in recorded history - 3rd wettest March and wettest April ever.

Nice job Ken!

These recent shots of flowers amid leaves are really beautiful, Ken ! I love the sense of movement you've got in this one with an inspired choice of dof and perfect lighting ( and is that a touch of vignetting ? )
