Goldfinch & REPOST

The birds and the blooms are beautiful in Virginia this year. I caught this goldfinch in my pink dogwood. My first use of a blind.

Nikon D300 F6.3 1/500 ISO 400

I liked the way the top branch framed him. Comments and critiques please. Always learning.

Nicely lit and detailed Andrew, though I would have preferred to see a larger version, particularly as the eye appears to look sharp and bright in this one but I imagine it would look all the more wonderful in large :^)

While the upper flowering branch is attractive, I think I would prefer this image more had it been presented in landscape showing more of the flowering branch of the perch giving the subject more space to "look into".

Beautiful bird and dogwood colours, and nice BG !
Not sure about the top branch - I'd experiment with removing it and having a landscape format.
Some bright areas are pretty hot - some selective dampening would improve this nice shot even more.

Beautiful blooms, they make an outstanding perch that compliments the bird well.
Nice detail and colors..
Looks like you may have had a bit of an exposure problem shooting the brightly lit bird against this dark BG, always a challenge.
Nits have been noted - Nice shot as posted :wavey:

I think the pink dogwood blooms and the yellow of the Goldfinch is lovely. The is a nice image from what I can see in the small version. I would love to have seen a larger version though. For me I think the flowers across the top cause the images to be unbalanced and a bit distracting. Did you perhaps think of cropping this image a different way and eliminating the top blooms?

Thanks for the critiques. Check out the rework as a horizontal and a larger version. Sharp enough on the goldfinch ? I toned down some of the hotter spots on the flowers too.

Lovely setting for this goldfinch Andrew. I like the cropping in both images. In the first one I like the flowers forming a bower over the bird. Nicely done.
