Gibberbird

These birds probably live in the harshest conditions of any Australian bird - the gibber plain deserts. Vast plains with an armour of small wind blasted pebbles. After so much rain there are a few ephemral bushes and grass but usually its just the gibberbirds and the stones.

Besides the interesting storyline, which goes a long way toward making this image all the more compelling, in every respect this is a perfect picture for me; the exposure, the DOF, the detail, the warm and complementary colours, and the subject is simply delightful, very well done all round Rob :^)

I especially like this natural desert setting, really compliments the birds color.
You say it's usually just the gibber bird and stones..don't forget the bugs :)
Techs look excellent, very well done Rob! :toast:

Another very nice image. I appreciate your posts not only for their technical quality and beauty, but also for what they teach me about Australia.

Thanks for the back story and explaining this species Rob...especially since I don't know anything about Australian avian species. This shot is simply fantastic! I love everything about it, but the two biggest things was the eye really pops on this and I really like how you managed to show the surroundings. Techs of course are top notch! :toast:

I second what Rich has to say. It's nice to know that these place and birds exist. The surroundings really tell the tale of this bird's daily struggle. :toast:

I agree with all the others, Rob. a well executed image, and the setting evokes what you say about the harshness of their habitat. the bird reminds me a bit of some of our thrashers, which often like the same desolate areas. I'm with the others in appreciating the opportunity to see and learn a bit about another continent and its avifauna through your posts.

Wonderful detail in the larger version and interesting habitat story. Nice job and techs for such bright light and that low perspective adds to the shot and gives that nice background, well done Rob, the larger image was a pleasure to view.
