Antelope Canyon, *REPOST*

** CHECK AT END LAST REPOST PLZ. ***

This photo is my favorite and the one that cost me more work

In the top part is blue sky and the lower part is very faint light, that means a high contrast

My tripod was not appropriate, so it was big trouble to setup (Michael Greene warned me about my tripod and he was right)

Then, the goal to capture the entire dynamic range was another challenge

Finally, process the photos so as to achieve high dynamic range capture and preserve the texture, was a challenge

Not to mention that in order to frame and shoot camera in that shorts spaces, you know ....

I hope that the results have been worth

Nice lines, textures and depth. Wonderful composition and handling.

Normally, the sky would be a problem, but I do like this additiional sliver of blue. There does see a little funkiness at the top of the image in the sandstone-a hazy bluish tone, maybe as a result of some blending, but adding some contrast in that section may help. Otherwise, looks very well processed under some difficult lighting. :toast:

I love this, Enrique! Certainly captures the overall sense of this canyon well and the colors are exquisite.

Rarely do you see the sky included in these shots, for the reasons you mentioned. That makes this image pretty unique among AC images. I also like the comp, color, and processing.

I like this alot. As mentioned you really don't see the sky in these shots, and the reason, I think, is that it is such a hard blend to make look natural. AC is a great subject to take to the extreme in processing. To me it is actually very close to natural looking. If I had to improve it, what I might try to do is keep the brightness of the rocks up by the sky, but desaturate them just a tad. Other than that...way cool shot, well done.

Definately a unique perspective, Enrique. I agree with Jeremy's suggestion to desaturate a bit, especially the red-orange rock in the center. I also see a halo (possibly from oversharpening) between some of the rock-rock and sky-rock transition points. With a couple tweeks I think this will be a very nice image.

Gorgeous work Enrique. This came out better than I was anticipating. The blue sky is gorgeous. The saturation looks OK to me and the hazy bluish-tone Harry is referring to I believe is just a bit of lens flare. I bet this was really hard to process. You sure did a great job on this. I could see re-sharpening for the web and masking out the ridge lines of stone were there are bits of sharpening artifacts. Wonderful!

The reason you don't see this done often is due to the extreme 'ghosting', and flare around the edges of an extremely dark slot canyon contrasted by very bright light outside. Even the best lenses have trouble with this, and it's evident here. That said, I do like the attempt at creativity here. Exposure-wise, I would not consider it natural looking as the blue sky would be brighter than the rock highlights inside the canyon by a lot, but to the non-photographer out there it might look fine as there's no telling where the light was coming from.

I actually like this creative view of the Canyon. I don't recall ever seeing the skies in an AC image before. Love the color transitions you caught!
You did a good job of cleaning up the fringing with the repost, but the sky took on a slightly green cast now.

I would add "+ repost" onto your title so you'll have returning visitors.

Wonderful image Enrique but I have to ask if this is an HDR or color fill. Difficult to get a good view of the sky without blow out even on a cloudy day at this place. Just curious about your processing technique. It is definitely a creative view.

Enrique,

Very interesting take on this most often photographed subject. I am on the fence about seeing the blue sky, as in that high contrast light would you really see the sky as blue? I don't mind the diffraction fringe as you would probably experience that with your own eyes anyway.

Is this how our eyes would see it???? I don't really care! This is how I would want to see it. I'd want to look up and see the beautiful blue sky, and not some washed out brightness hurting my eyes. So reality, or not, I think it's beautiful.

Enrique, I like your idea about including the sky into the canyon. The repost is much better than the original. It was not the sky what bothered me it was the darker orange wall further back. I think there was too much contrast and it was too dark. the lighting conditions between outside the canyon and inside the canyon in the repost are more alike. Except the upper right hand corner. that seems to be still the same. I also wouldn't mind to have the sky a bit brighter. But then I think the repost is good as it is.
