Misty Morning

It seems ages since I've had a photograph I could post to NPN. Most of my work has been urban (NYC) for some time. I finally got out in the dense pre-dawn fog this past Sunday morning to explore one of my favorite old haunts, Fire Island. The dense fog made for a wonderful meander down familiar walkways to rarely visited lately. I discovered a doe and yearling fawn breakfasting in the dense thickets of the inner swale. The soft light of the dense fog made for a precious and private scene.

Comments encouraged and welcome. I've posted a large version which will hopefully convey the detail accurately.

(it's nice to be back!)

One of the best wildlife photos I've seen from Long Island (saying a lot since I value my work so highly!) You have captured the mood so beautifully (especially the Fire Island mood for those who know it) and the detail and texture is perfect. It's just a shame the other deer didn't have it's head raised up. . . I think that hurts the image quite a bit.

P.S. you must be happy to get this shot in April and not August when of course you would be sucked dry by those FI mosquitoes!

Absolute Bliss :toast:

The larger version appears a tad over sharpened.

That fog and the monochrome look make for a very moody image Jim. The position of the deer in the frame is perfect as is the pose of the right one. If only the left one would have its head up too this would have been even stronger though. :toast:

Beautiful image, very graphic indeed- Superb atmosphere, the straight lines add a lot to the strenght of the composition- A beauty, Fabio

I love the arty feel you've created here Jim, the composition, subtle tones, and the way the subjects are partially obscured all work very well to make a thought-provoking image. Well done :^)

Awesome shot Jim...These guys had a horrible winter!! Good to see them get a break as far as the weather goes.

This looks great Jim, the toning has given it a nice timeless feel.

The comp is a good one. Placing the deer in the left corner with the head turn to the right takes us through the rest of the image nicely. Good focus on the subjects with all those reeds in the fg. Love the feel of this.

Very very nice, Jim. I like the soft mood and this makes for an unusual and pleasing deer image. Comp looks just right! I don't mind the fact that the fawn is feeding and have no suggestions other than agreeing the sharpening feels too "crispy" strong, especially in the larger version. Excellent work!
