Turkey vultures and "this" black vulture are the garbage men of our area. They keep the streets clean of roadkill, keep flies down,etc..... they usually look "Butt Ugly"! But, I actually think this rendering "flatters" him.

This was a difficult piece to get just right.

I forgot just how hard it is to give detail to such a dark subject!

I think the slightly artsy look suits him, and this was a lot of detail to get from an "almost" silhouette. Mia's critique in Avian was very good, but, unfortunately I did the best I could with this photo. :frown: I accidentally put this in Avian first.

I did notice, that he appears to have a pinkish halo above him ringing the sky. At first , I thought about yanking it.....but, I think I like this effect. It complements his pinkish beak. It was definitely from processing, not in the original photo. I also decided to "ignore" the halo effect around the subjects, because I don't feel it takes anything away from the mood.

I really do like this image despite it's flaws. :wavey: Hope you do, too

You caught this bird in some good light Nancy. Doesn't look like a butt ugly bird in this light. You did well especially with the balance of light and dark.

BTW - Maybe you should come to MA to photograph the terrorist wild turkeys where I work. They chase people in the parking lot. Now wild turkeys are "butt ugly" and are very aggressive. They wander between cars in the morning and evening in the parking lot scanning for and scaring their unsuspecting victims. :-)

This image has a very interesting feeling to it. I pov and the way the bird is in the center of the lighted area is great. I like this image a lot.

I'm not sure I'm seeing the pinkish halo. Maybe my monitor? The background does have a bit of an artsy processing look overall, but I like it.
