Taken at around 6 am . There was mist on the lake which I really liked and think added some ambience to this shot. Nikon D700, Nikon 300mm (F4), ISO 500, 1/1000 ,F5.6, Manual Exposure, Tripod. Small crop, little noise reduction. Comments and critiques welcome and thank you for looking. Best regards, Andrei

Andrei, I like the calm, tranquil scene you captured here very much, and I like the misty look and the colors. I like everything about it except your placement or location of the bird in the photo. I don't know if you already know this or not, but the general rule when the subject is facing left or right in a photo, is to have more room or space on the side that the subject is facing. In my humble opinion, where you have the bird placed in the photo would have been more ideal if the bird was facing the other direction.

Hi Gary, thanks for your critique, I really appreciate it. I do know about the general rule of thumb in terms of placement and totally understand your point which is valid. However the reason why I chose to place the heron in this particular position is because of the bright line the heron is creating while moving through the water. I like that effect and think it creates movement in the photo. Perhaps its not as effective as I wanted it to be . Again thanks very much. Best regards, Andrei :toast:

Very nice image as posted, Andrei. I love the light. I do feel the image would be a bit stronger if the Egret was pointing the opposite direction, however, sometimes you have to take what the bird gives you.

Great mood in this image. The light and the mist really make the image.

Very nice shot, I love the light and mood of the photo. I see what you mean about the bright line of water...however...I don't think it draws enough attention to it to forget about the heron facing towards the left.

I like the composition. I think the whole rule of the subject looking into the frame is overblown and overused. I think it's just as interesting for a viewer to wonder where that heron is going instead of having it spelled out for them. Nice shot.
