Baby's Ear Burrowing

Hardly a knock out subject, but one that I had never seen before running into this one during the super neap tide I mentioned. The critter is called a Baby's Ear or White Baby's Ear. It is a mollusk whose body seems to actually surround its shell. The body is quite slimy as you can see from the trail it is leaving. This one was probably 2 to 2 1/2 inches across. They seem common to the Southeast coast based on what I could find in some guide books. This one was on Sanibel Island, FL.

7D 100-400 ISO 1600 1/320 F11 HH IS on nr in Lightroom.

Interesting image and interesting information. I think you did a fine job in capturing the creature. There is not a lot of contrast in the mollusk or the sand. Your detail is good. I would not have known what it was without your explanation. Thanks for posting. I have been on the beaches in Florida several times and never seen one.

I like the very minimal contrast in this shot - an effect of the even lighting, and the subtle colors. The dark and light specks in the sand are really nice details. What an interesting creature!

I have to hand it to you, some great info on the sea life you've been posting.
I've never seen this before, great interest..
Almost looks like a soft boiled egg, and somebody likes their salt-n-pepper
Well done :toast:
