I am not a particular fan of high key backgrounds, but we have 4 to 6 inches of new snow. I am trying for some pictures of the male, but 2 males have been fighting over territory, and have not posed for me yet.
As usual, a set up perch by my backyard blind. Larger version provided.
D90, 30f4, 1/640, iso 200, f11, beanbag, natural light.
Comments and critiques appreciated.

Dan, another awesome shot of a bluebird. You must have a good backyard perch and blind to get all this great shots of the blue birds. I have not seen any here yet. Hope the males let you get your shot soon.

Love the pose and the snow on the teasel. Nice detail in the larger post. There seems to be a slight blue / cyan cast beyond what I would expect for the muted lighting. Try giving it a tap with Autocolor and see how the tones look.

I like the first version, too, particularly because of the snow. The colors and detail are beautiful.

What a wonderful image, Dan! Simple, but elegant. You made the best use of the weather conditions and I like the hint of snow in this image. Great head turn, super sharp, well composed and presented. The repost is better. Congrats on getting this shot! :toast:

Beautiful composition and detail. I perch is great too! To my eye the image might benefit from brightening a bit.

Wow! Such exquisite detail and I think the high key background works very well with such an image. The whole effect gives me the impression it might have been drawn in ink by an extremely talented artist, although of course I know it was actaully created by an extremely talented photographer ;^)

Thanks also for sharing the link to the image you captured of the male BTW, which is equally wonderful in every respect Dan :^)

Excellent capture, Dan. This is one species of bird I wish we had in the UK, both the male and female are fantastic little birds.

Another beautiful study Dan. the high key background doesn't worry me at all particularly with the snow on the seed head giving some perspective.

cheers
