Egretta rufescens

I just returned from a trip to SW Florida. I captured this Reddish Egret hunting at Ding Darling. Maybe a tad tight, but this is my only real option for a crop.

1/1000, f8, ISO 200
7D, 500mm f4L IS
59% of full frame

All comments and critique very appreciated.
Thank You.

Nice catch, but it IS a bit tight. Since the top is solid green, it would be easy to clone some additional canvas i on top. Exrtending the right side would take more work.
Good colors and pose here. The image could use some CCW rotation to straighten the water line, but this might make the bird look more tilted - a tough pose to work with.

It is just a tad tight, but a very nice image. The techs are spot on, the wingspread delightful and I like the reflected water lines across the bird.

Works for me, I don't really find it too tight. Nice capture of the feeding behavior of this egret. :toast:

I too like this as presented Matt. The wing tips have room on both sides so it works for me. Love the pose and the water. Nice and sharp with a great exposure on the bird. Not sure about the need for rotation as water can play tricks. Overall, a well shot image.

well done, Matt--a classic Reddish pose and I really like the reflections on the wings. a little tight but it works fine for me as is, especially because I recently got firsthand experience of how hard it is to keep these guys in the frame and maintain focus with their erratic movements.

Classic pose with solid detail. The reflection of the ripples in the water on the under wings is a plus.

What a wonderful pose and I think this crop works fine. I like the wing span, colors, head turn and reflections, the larger image was a pleasure to view, way to go.

A super impressive shot with the pose, details, and reflections. I wouldn't change a thing. The bird would fall over if you tried to rotate the image!!!

Hello Matt, I copy Sandy's comments about the framing. I like the water reflections across the bird.
