This is a snow version of a hoodie. There were a bunch of mallards and just this one Hooded Merganser who was significantly more shy than the regulars at the dock. C & C welcome.
Thanks for looking

Lindy....this is a nice exposure, but looks like you had some harsh back lighting. I don't like how the near side of the duck is in shadow, but I do actually like the light coming through the crest. Overall, I think I'd prefer to see a bit different lighting direction....but the main thing I'd like to see is a lower angle, closer to the water level. I don't know how high the dock you referred to is, but if you're not doing it, you might want to try lying on it.

I just read the first post and it is exactly what I would have said. It's really great how an image can change when you drop down to a lower level. :wavey:

I like this comp, Lindy, with the foam at the top.

Lindy, the bird looks sharp but I do agree with the suggestions for a lower angle and different lighting direction.

I love this species, but the lighting just wasn't ideal here. I might try to lighten up the shadows some more to bring out detail. You were at 0 compensation, so you could have adjusted the comp to at least +1 if not more and been safe. Backlit shots can be tricky.
