I love the soft muted colors on the fern. The grasshopper is an odd note. I would have been tempted to tump it off, but it is part of nature.

I like the photo, nice subject and oof bg. I'm kinda on the fence about the hopper. There's a sense of mystery as to what he's up to over there, but I think I would probably clone it out. :wavey:

I like the soft greens of spring and you've captured them here.

This is an excellent of what I think is a fern leaf opening. The colors and the dof are very soothing. If that grasshopper were moving, I would have waited for it to leave or to move into view.

Nice textures and bg. Is that a grasshopper or cricket on the upper backside of the fiddlehead? If so, I would have loved to see more of it. The soft greens and browns are lovely.

The grasshopper (if that's what it is) wasn't interested in moving, and I particularly liked the first-posted view, so I just figured I'd let it be as it was.

But I did walk around to see if there was a better view. I didn't like this view of the plant as well for my spring collage idea, which is why I originally shot this image, but here is the grasshopper when it saw me. NOTE: These two images I'm posting now are not processed at all in any way except to get them through raw processing. I just wanted to post these two for you guys to see.

AFTER POSTING: I see that you can't see the grasshopper's eye at this size, but he had one eye looking up at me when he first became aware of me.

And this is what he did after he looked at me (buried his head back into the plant to do whatever he was doing).

The details show better in the large version. I like the comp and color, and the light and dof. I guess I could do without the hopper.

I like the image as posted Barbara. The soft treatment works with the subject for me and I like the composition. I think the hopper would normally bother me but in this case for whatever reason I like it. A fine image for my tastes.

Barbara: I would have liked to see the entire hopper or at least its head but overall I think it is still a slightly plus element. Nice job on your DOF management and isolating your subject against the BG. >=))>

Really well taken and displayed. Because the colors are so alike the hopper doesn't bother me at all. Good job. :toast:

I like the first shot Barbara. I like how you framed this fern on a slight angle, and you did a great job with your DOF selection. I'm on the fence about the hopper, doesnt help, but doesnt hurt too much either.
