Greece in Autumn, part 2

Another a-typical Greek landscape as promised! This time posted in Man and Nature because, if you look at the LARGE version, you may just spot an old little monastery right at the bottom of the gorge. This is the Vikos Gorge - the most beautiful gorge I have visited - I think at its best in Autumn but I will post a reply to this to show you how it looks in Spring, when I first saw it. The light is necessarily a bit harsh because otherwise it would just all be in shadow - this was blended from 3 exposures.

And here it is in Spring! This one blended from 5 exposures - really tricky to deal with the DR.

Fantastic colors and composition, I especially like how you leed the attention into the depth of the valley!

To many people, Greece is just Athens and the islands; there is so much more there as your fine examples show. Besides this wide view, I'd like to see a close up from the same vantage point of the river bends and the monastery, I think that would work well too.

Joe - your wish is my command!
Actually I was originally going to post this one in a reply but thought the similar view in Spring might be of more interest. I wanted to do this version in the Spring but, as you can see, the monastery was in the shadow and there was no time to go back. When I returned in Autumn, that was my main aim - to focus in on the monastery and springs. But then, when I saw the whole scene.... Anyway, hope you check back in to see this one (I do have one with more of the river bends but I don't feel it works so well)

Am I ever glad I checked this thread! The lead photo is a stunner, but the last one is drop dead gorgeous! WOW. I would not suggest a single thing to change this except to say it deserves its own thread so it can be seen.

This is a beautiful scene Lizzie. What an interesting place. I like this first post, but I love the last one. The monastery and fall color along with that beautiful turquoise river look fantastic. I agree with Katherine with this deserving its own thread. Beautiful.

Katherine & Nick - thanks very much - I will give this its own thread then as soon as my 48 hour gap is up! ;-)

Lizzie, I did check back and glad I did! That's a great shot! I had been thinking a vertical format, but this horizontal format looks great. Well done! :toast:

Ok! Well done. 48 hours is a long time. Lol! I am itching to know what some of the plants are in these photographs. I was in Crete 28 years ago, and the plants blew me away then, and some of these look very interesting. What got me was how incredibly aromatic the place was. Gorgeous smells. Lemon groves, wow!

Gorgeous scenery Lizzie. You addressed my questions in your last post on M&N. Great color in first post but the sky especially on the upper right is a bit harsh. A square crop may work best here but that is just my opinion. The spring view is drop dead gorgeous. Appreciate the post of the more intimate scene of the monastery. That is my favorite with the turquoise water.
