A Coastline with Curves

On the way home from a road trip through Oregon this past July I found two comps that I thought were beautiful and I locked into my brain as must haves. They jumped out at me the way that shots sometimes do, all of the sudden and without notice. I was driving when I saw this one, and it was about 11am on a grey and gloomy day. I'd be back someday I thought.
September rolled around and on a lark I emailed my wife who typically gets home from work around 8pm and asked if she wanted to take off hella early and drive all night with me. She actually said yes, which totally made my day. I checked the weather, and it looked like I might not get the marine layer, but I might actually get some clouds (which I did not, but who cares)
The shot’s not perfect, and it would be better with a big gnarly colorful storm or something, but I’ll take it for a workday haul! Cheers.

Nice job balancing the car lights and the sunlight. That really makes the curve stand out. I also like your use of the foreground to limit how much of the car lights are seen. I do wish that the sky in the ULC wasn't so dark.

I like the warm light on the left Jared. The looping car lights work well transporting the viewer through the scene. I find the light in the sky natural as the sun is setting to the right. I especially like the wind blown grass in the Larger view.

This is a really cool shot, Jared. I see how you wanted to come back here. I'll echo Mark on the nice balancing job with the car lights.

I like the non-gnarly sky. Its actually very neon and pulls the light traces out beautifully. This image is a lot of fun! Its great as is..

Just for interest sake, to see what happens, I wonder what you would get if you cropped it to put the light loop in the lower 2/3 of the comp, and remove the left side of the photo, leaving mostly the right side of the photo....??? But those are just suggestions and I have no idea if that would be more focused or what? Great photograph, and I like the story that went with it.

Great photograph Jared. Love those streaking tail lights. They give a sense of time passing and hint at the long exposure.
