If a photo like this piques your interest, I have a video posted on my blog that you've really got to check out. This climber's progress on filming his own mini-documentary of Mendenhall area ice climbing and exploration prompted me to mix in quite a bit more video with my stills than is my standard fare. In the end, my aptitude remains more for picture that are not "moving", but the whole exercise was a great deal of fun.

The light high on the glacier gets a little sweeter than at the face because of the ridges and mountains surrounding the lake. The light has to make it worth while because it's a fair trial to trek this far up when the bulk of the most interesting ice features are passed along the way.

I know this might come across as a shameless attempt to run more traffic to my blog, but I'm really just thinking that there are some visitors here that wouldn't want to miss this. Thanks for viewing the photo and making a comment or following the link if you have time. Peace.

Really cool picture, Kent. A great action image that you captured in some beautiful light. I really like the comp you have here too. That looks like quite a challenge. Very nice work!

I love the light on the ice as well as its texture Kent, but this just screams adventure and danger. I checked out your video as well. Not something I would do, but I am going to forward the link to my son who is an Outdoor Education major at the University of New Hampshire. He ice climbs here in New Hampshire.

Eva - My best friend (who has been featured in this gallery before) is a graduate of UNH. He probably should have majored in outdoor ed like your son, but instead he earned a degree in civil engineering, and he hasn't done anything since but mountain guide, kayak guide, lead glacier treks, and work ski patrol.

Kent - In addition to the great lighting, like the splintering ice. Nice action shot.
