Fog Dance + Pano Repost

Fog dancing on the water of Back River in Boothbay Maine just before sunset during a clearing storm. The light was amazing and the fog lit up white hot from the sun passing through it. Another wonderful light show on the river (my river). Taken in Sept 2006 from our dock. The sun is setting to my right where the clouds have broken. BTW - The posts sticking out of the water are lobster pot markers. My father-in-law used to lobster on this tidal river though he was no longer lobstering when I took this. This is a tidal river in mid coast Maine.

Thanks for looking and for any comments and critiques which are always appreciated.

Eva, what a great image! Given that the water, background trees, and the sky are all dark, it would have been a very somber photo except for that transforming light. That light is like -wow and you captured it so well. Wonderfully composed and captured.

Excellent capture of the light. :toast: It's hard to get fog just right, but you certainly did it here. Good detail in the clouds, too. Nicely done!

The light in the mist on the river is so gorgeous that it leaves me pondering a panoramic format for this photo. The colors throughout the sky are also great, but I wonder if there's some lens distortion that needs correcting along the far edge of the river.

Eva - what gorgeous light - this is a stunning image and I love its mood - you have handled the fog really well. I wonder about cropping a little off the sky? I am not sure to be honest but there 'might' be a case for either just above or just below the lighter area of cloud on the RHS - though below certainly gives it a very different feel.

A really fine image Eva. Moody and beautiful. The fog seems to be lit from within. Might try cropping a bit off the forewater but this is a very evocative shot just as it is.

This is really nice, Eva. Wonderful light and the fog does look like it is dancing. Very nice work with your comp and capturing these great conditions. This is all about the light!

Implementing some suggestions, here is a pano repost. I also brought up the expanded mid tones a bit with TK's Luminosity layers. The original looked a little too dark to me after viewing on a few different computers and browsers.

Thanks very much everyone. I really appreciate you thoughtful comments and critiques.

How did I miss this? Its a STUNNER!! Fantastic light, and beautiful smokey feel to it. I like the crop, it boils it down nicely. This is a very beautiful image, Eva.
Wow. I liked knowing this is 'your' river too.

Having grown up sailing the coast of Maine, particularly the mid-coast region, I was instantly drawn to this. I have been out on many a lobster boat, and this catches that wonderful feel of the mists as they capriciously dance across the river. Which river, by the way?

I might be inclined to crop down quite a bit. The sky is stunning, no doubt, but I wonder if it isn't competing with the river and mists.

Eva, Your repost really nailed this image. The minor adjustments look very good to me, and the crop is just perfect IMO. :toast:

Thanks everyone.

Hi Margo - This is Back River near Oven's Mouth in Boothbay. The view is looking toward the Sheepscot River.
