Spring is in the air

I found this lonely flower yesterday during a walk in the wood.
It was in a dark ravine near a puddle of water created by the snow that was melting. I'd have preferred take it in front, but it was not easy to get there and I managed to take only a side shot.
I don't know the name of this flower, may someone help me with the ID?

40D 100 macro IS
f4,5 1/80
ISO 640

Thanks for viewing.
C&C are very welcome.

Beautiful image Monica. I particularly like the bg pattern and color. I also like your plane of focus decision, The blurred areas in the image suggest motion to me and give the image energy. No suggestions and sorry but no help with the ID.

I suppose that as an alternative you could crop down to 4:5 from the top. Again an alternative - not a suggestion. I like the image as posted.

Very neat shot, Monica, I'd say an Anemone, but which one !?!?

I think this works beautifully from this angle, Monica. The mix of sharp and soft in the flower centre, and the light diagonals in the bg give real vitality to the image. Beautiful colouring too !!

Thanks everybody for the nice comments thus far.
Thanks Mauro for the clue. I searched it on the net and I think this flower is an Anemone Hepatica. :wavey:

Lovely color and light, and I agree with Pat that the focus gives a sense of motion. Very nice.

Monica, nicely seen and captured. Yes, I believe this is a hepaica nobilis. It is a very early woodland flower. The blooms come first then the leaves.

Nice colors and light, the background contrasts well with the flower standing out well in your frame. Would've been better from another POV as you say.
Dainty & Beautiful! :wavey:

I think the side view is very interesting and fits your title very well (it's like the flower is sheltering itself from the winter)! The focus in the center is very well done.

I think that the side view you have is even better than a front view, Monica: it's different and the two near petals are just bright enough to complete the "shielding from the winter" effect without being distracting. The DOF is ideal here. Re; the name. I had fun searching on the Internet too and what I found fits with what you and Mauro and Bob mentioned. An alternate name for this flower is "Noble Liverwort" where "liverwort" is from the Anglo Saxon words meaning "Liver Plant". Apparently the edges (margins) of some leaves in this family resemble a liver. Anyway, it's such an ugly common name for such a beautiful flower. Let's stick with the scientific name!

Monica: My immediate reaction was for a 4:5 crop from the top. Excellent DOF management and BG separation. Good photography.>=))>

The side view with this BG is making this image more engaging Monica, looks very similar to the river anemone's we have here in India :)
