Olympus E-1, 54mm lens, hand-held
f9, ISO200, 1/640

Dalton Highway, July 2006. Record wildfires in 2004 and 2005 burnt nearly 10% of Interior Alaska, mostly north of Fairbanks. Drier weather, perhaps a result of anthropogenic climate change, has promoted a series of record-dry summers, making lightning-generated wildfires that are epic in size. Something is broken, and this is the result: fireweed as far as the eye or camera can see.

Full frame. Adjust white balance because the E-1's was, frankly, awful.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Amazing color in these fields of lupine Jim. I've often seen photos where burn areas end up being amazing wildflower fields. I guess mother nature's way of making the area pretty again.

Really an incredible scene. Not that this is a bad comp--but i cant help but think theres a totally killer shot to be had with this kind of scene--maybe a real near-far type of comp, getting down low amongst all those blooms. Anyhow, neat entry! Id probably crop half the sky. :wavey:
