Male lion feasting on a buffalo took time to intimidate some nearby hyena that were getting too close.

This is very nice, great commanding pose. It would be great if his face was in the light but thats nature.

"la bocca sollevò dal fiero pasto ..." that's the incipit of one of the most know chapter from the Dante's Divina Commedia. Anyway, did you try a different cut? IMO this does not give emphasis to the bloody face and mane. Maybe some adjustments in contrast and saturation could help on separate the muzzle from the body. Just thinking at loud voice, so ...

Anyway I would have been there to witness the scene.

Intense look and an image that really tells a story. The back lighting adds an interesting aspect to the image and I realize this is very harsh light to deal with. I might be inclined to crop some off the bottom to minimize the bright spots down by the legs but that is minor. Very graphic image with all the blood but I realize all animals must eat, good job in getting this.
