I initially thought of posting this to EPJ, but I thought it would likely get more exposure here. If the mods think it belongs in EPJ please feel free to move it.

I believe this is a Coopers Hawk and it has just finished off one of the female cardinals that frequent my bird feeder. I was inside the house when I initially noticed it in a stand of sassafras and other brush in the back corner of the yard. Picked up the camera and started taking a series of hand held shots as I moved progressively closer. This is the last one I got before it took off and judging from the remains it pretty much finished the meal.

This was sharpened using a high pass filter technique is CS5 and I am curious to see how it appears on the web. So all comments regarding sharpness would be most welcome.

Techs: 40D with 100-400 IS at 400. 1/800 sec at f5.6 and iso 640

Very nicely done Larry! It is funny how when they are eating they let you approach. Great capture. :toast:
