Woodie Out on a Limb

Before I captured the Female Wood Duck on my last post, I spotted this young lady up a tree. I know they are tree nesters, but I had not seen this before. I found this unusual and interesting. It was overcast but I was shooting back into the sun. I think I got her pretty well. I cropped this to 50% of original image and to show off the tree limb the Woodie was on.

Comments are appreciated.

I've bird watched for over 50 years and was a wildlife biologist for 40 years and while I've seen woodies at nesting boxes, I've never actually seen one sitting in a tree. It maybe that I'm not looking in trees for ducks, but nevertheless you captured something that is probably common but more rarely observed much less photographed. I enjoyed it.

I like the idea of getting a woody up in a tree. However, the BG is too contrasty for me and angle is pretty steep. Tough conditions for sure.

Harry, Agree it's a tough background but I sure like seeing this female in the tree and you got a nice head turn. Given the situation the angle is ok by me.

You did a nice job on the duck with a very tough background. I am surprised about the comments of not seeing wood duck in trees. They nested in tree cavities long before humans started putting up next boxes.
