Evening Grosbeak+REPOST

Here's another Evening Grosbeak from the yard. I thought he gave me a nice head turn.

Your comments and critiques are appreciated.

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4xTC, couch-pod out the open window.

f/8, 1/800, ISO 400

Crop to 84% (15.1 of 18MP)

EDIT: just realized I've got some color and noise issues in the left bg--think this is due to applying the shadow tool to the whole image rather than masking out the bg.

That is a beautiful image. Nice to have so much feather detail, and I really like the eye contact.

I agree, you did get a nice head turn Brian. Sharpness and detail look good and I like the curving lines of the perch fading to OOF as they go up. Some of the whites look a little bright to my eye.

Excellent capture Brian, your DOF choice is great wonderful detail as best seen in the larger view. I love the branch perch and how it turns upward and OOF. The branch colors are very compimentary to the grosbeaks markings and colors. Well done!

Lovely shot, Brian. Colors, pose and most especially detail are generally great. Detail in the whites is the main question. The whites are not blown and they do show a little detail. However, as Ron mentioned, they do give the impression of being quite bright. Maybe that's just the way this bird is colored or, more likely, the light angle and intensity just doesn't let you see more contrasting areas (i.e. more detail) in the whites. Regarding the repost, I scrolled up and down several times and I just can't distinguish the repost from the original. Maybe it would be more evident when you have the originals in front of you. All of these are nits of course. Great shot. :toast:

Nice shot Brian. Exposure looks good to me in the repost. Whites need to be white and I see detail in the whites so they work for me. These are cool birds and I like the habitat and sharpness.

Nice image Brian great techs and the color of light is wonderful. I wish they could get a handle on way this species is declining so rapidly. They would fill the trees when I was a kid and now I only see them here on the forum.
