Blizzard

I took this around noon on Tuesday, in near blizzard conditions. Some here may remember a very similar post from 2 years ago, which I took during a stronger blizzard. I ventured out today to both reproduce the original scene, and to explore other possibilities. We ended up with about a foot of snow in central Kansas, but it should melt relatively fast :). 7D, f/11, ISO 100, 1/60, slight crop. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

1/60 worked out well at capturing the horizontal snowfall. Wonder if a little more mid tone contrast would make the trees "pop" a little more.

Weather well captured.

Cool, Rob! I got to watch the wall of snow hit last night, right after the 68 mph winds hit, it was pretty crazy! I briefly considered going out yesterday in search of some blizzardy shots, but i chose to sleep instead--glad you took advantage of all the fun!

I absolutely love it, Rob! It's these kind of conditions that makes winter photography fun and adventurous. The hint of color on the bottom really strengthens the composition.

Oh, this is so nice. Wonderful conditions and perfect choice of shutter speed to record the motion in the falling snow. Excellent work.

Absolutely superb Rob just the sort of shot that puts me there and I love your choice of shutter speed spot on I reckon. the muted colours are great as in my opinion are the contrast levels applied.

I'd print it and hang it on my wall.

Really nice, Rob. You did a great job of capturing the feel of this storm. I can really feel it just looking at this. I like this comp alot too. Nice work! We had pretty similar conditions just a week ago.

Very nice Rob, it looks like the trees are dancing around back there trying to avoid the snow and wind. I could also see this in B&W. Well worth the trip out I believe. Cheers

Looks like some miserable conditions, Rob! The image really captures the blizzard feeling, well done.

I love the snow, especially how the motion blur is perpendicular to the trees. Processing looks great, too.

This is very pretty. I love the blurred snow against the sharp lines of the trees. The hint of color of the grass makes this image sing.

I can't add much but I appreciate you getting out there in these horrible conditions and sharing with us all, makes you wonder about the Plains Indians ensconced in tepees huddled around a central fire listening to the blowing wind, warm and confident in their reliable structures ability to withstand the storm. That's what the image conveys to me.

Thanks everybody. I have played with the mid-tones, but this version just feels right. Paul D, I couldn't imagine riding out a blizzard in a tepee. I was sitting in my car when I took this :).

Can't imagine being out in this weather let alone taking photographs in it. I could see cropping a bit of the bottom and making it even more abstract with just the repeating tree trunks and blowing snow.

I like the structure you achieved in your comp, the muted winter colors, and the blowing snow. Very well done.
