Wind Turbines

Found these all along the Oregon highway on my last visit there, ,six months before on a trip they were not there. I found them quite elegant and tranquil to watch as they churn away.No real edits, bumped the blacks.

I'm always torn by windmills. I hate their intrusion into a growing number of familiar scenes, but at the same time find them "elegant and tranquil" to watch, as you point out. And they're great fun to photograph!

In the short term I can see their benefits, but over the long term I am concerned about their life span. It's relatively short, and the companies seem inclined to abandon them along with the scatter of broken parts arrayed beneath them. I don't think I'm going out on a limb in forecasting that some day our grand vistas are going to be splashed with their abandoned hulks unless their permits include bonding for cleanup.

Nice comp!

I whole heartily agree! Their beauty is fleeting and then your just left with the the cost of their impact on the land!

I like this photo! The color grabs my eye and the white windmills really pop off the background color. Nicely composed too. My only suggestion - would a few steps to the left have eliminated the fence in the lower right corner? It's not a deal-breaker but the photo may have been even stronger without it.

Nice job and congrats on the pick!

Congrats on the award, Lorna! These are becoming a common sight in California, much to the consternation of some folks.
