Snow Vessels

Just becoming active again after being out of commission for a while, so I am jumping the gun on the winter flora theme. I just can't stop shooting spent leaves, on the ground, floating or sunken in water, or hanging on the tree. (I think I kind of identify with them! Not "working" anymore, but still possessing some substance that will contribute to new life yet to come.) This time of year most of the leaves we can see are marcescent ones (those that hang on until spring) on small oak and beech trees.

I shot these late on a very overcast afternoon, so the light reflected up from the snow appears to look brighter than the sky light

Canon 50D
Sigma 17-70mm. f/2.8
1/4 sec. @ f/16; ISO 200
Tripod; Mirror up via LCD focusing; 2-sec. timer
Three exposures stacked increased depth of field in CS5.
I removed a blue cast from my auto white balance, and cloned out a couple of background twigs and leaf tips.

Wayne: What a find and what a capture. The snow in the cone is icing on a very fine cake. Many kudos! >=))>

Great find and a wonderful three dimensional view. The cone shapes being filled with snow really makes a stand out shot. Glad you are getting back on your feet. Well wishes are sent from me to you. :wavey:

Wayne:
This image brings a smile to my face when I opened it...guess it is slightly whimsical and also reminds me of ice-cream cones.
Lovely image with minimalist look.
Good to see you posting again. :toast:

Really good to see you posting again Wayne. Superb find; very well captured. The visible snow inside the middle leaf puts it over the top. Awesome!

What a great find and a well executed presentation. I like the fact that the two outer leaves are turned away from the viewer....we can imagine them filled with snow also. My only suggestion would be to tone down the bright area in the very URC. Nice stuff!

Delightful, Wayne. Love the snow in the "snow cone", lighting is excellent, good detail and I really like how the branch fades "in/out" at the left top. Very nice.

Aptly titled, Wayne. The stacking and coloring is lovely. Not sure about the stem at the very top. Honestly can't make a decision as to whether it should fade away to nothingness or show up as strongly as the tip of the branch does. I only know that spot grabs my attention away from the leaves.
Glad to see you posting.

Cheers,

Carol

You have such a great eye for scenes like this. Textbook comp with the use of the diagonal lines and a triple. Outstanding, Wayne!

This is fabulous Wayne. I think the BG works well, the light is excellent, and I love the three leaves. Wonderful!

Leaves as cornucopias full of snow. Wayne, I love this almost monocromathic image, symbol of winter mood and snowy weather. Excellent composition and good editing work.
Cheers.
