Fire Island Deer

These Deer are from Robert Moses State Park on Fire Island in NY
VERY tame deer, they will jog up to the car looking for a handout...which they get way too often. I had my Lab and Setter in the truck and they had their heads out the window. No fear was shown by the deer.

Nice shot. Good exposure. I would suggest a vertical crop for this, eliminate some of the blank spaces. Thanks for sharing.

I'm surprised you were able capture one that wasn't ravaged by ticks. All of my deer I've taken pictures of on Fire Island are covered with ticks. They're also so friendly to humans that they often times make it difficult to get a natural looking shot. I grew up on the south shore of the island and it just infuriates me how people will stop and feed the deer right in front of the sign that says "don't feed the deer". Thanks for posting and bringing back home. I love The FINS. :toast:

Hi Jerry,

Well, at least it wasn't a bear jogging up to you! The image looks solid technically (well exposed, sufficiently sharp). Personally I wouldn't mind seeing a little more separation from the subject from the background here (i.e., less depth-of-field) - perhaps opening up the aperture a little more (to somewhere in the f5.6 range) would have softened the background just a tad and made the deer stand out a little more...

Cheers...

Brad

This deer looks fat and healthy! Maybe she does too well on potato chips? Techs look good. If they are this acclimated to humans, perhaps you could have found a lower perspective? And as Brad suggests, it would have been a great opportunity to experiment with dof effects with different apertures.

Thanks for the feedback guys...I will be back tomorrow morning trying for some better shots. They are too well acclimated to humans. If you get out of your vehicle, they will literally mob you, especially this time of year when food isn't easy to come by.
