Spotted this small herd in the woods at Sugar Grove Nature Center.
The light was fairly flat.

I like this a lot John. In fact it might be my favorite post of yours. The 3 sets of ears are great and I like the way they are framed by the branches on both sides. It would have been even better had you gotten the nose of the second deer, but not something you could control. If it were mine I might crop some from the bottom. Nice work :toast:

It is not easy to capture these animals in the woods because almost always you have a trunk or a branch just in the middle of the animal and even more difficult with 3 of them. Good job.

The only nit is the horizontal line of snow just above the deer distracts me and perhaps a bit sharper would be better. But even with that I like the photo.

Hi John,

Nice "in-habitat" shot. Shooting in terrain like this is tough - as Oscar has pointed out it's hard to get an unobscured view of the deer. I tend to agree with Nate's suggestion to crop some off the bottom, but that's obviously a personal preference issue.

Cheers...

This is a nice view. I like the mood and the snow and the way the deer seem in harmony with that brown and white environment. I agree the horizontal snow line above their heads detracts from the composition. Ideally, I would have wanted there to be only the two overlapping deer and not have the fawn peering over the back of the front doe.

Light looks natural and as I'd expect in snowy, winter woods. I like the open alley view here.
