The Culmination
by Jared Atencio
This is a pretty popular location just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in SF. We have had an unusually warm and dry Jan. here in the Bay Area, so on this particular day I was happy to see clouds! The stacks in this are a very dark rock (sorry, I'm no geologist) so I intentionally left them extremely dark, and the sand is very dark here as well, which really helps the wave motion and foam stand out. Any comments or critiques on how to improve this image are always appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This is one of the best ocean images I've seen in some time...congratulations!

Michael, I def wanted a darker feel to this, but agree that the sky could be a bit lighter up top. Good eye also on the highlights in the water matching the sky. As for the haloing, there was no blending done around the rocks whatsoever, so I think that's just the natural radiance of the sun setting behind the rock, but DO see the haloing you're referring to-thanks for the suggestions.
Art-thanks also. These rocks were a type of black rock and from my vantage point on this day, I could not make out any details with my naked eye, so just kept them black. Looking at the histo again, I think they are a little darker than what I intended (I wanted them VERY dark but not clipped), so can stand to lighten them a tad.
Thank you everyone else!

Personally I would ditch the ND's and bracket and blend and not have the top quite as dark (black/purplish).
Still a great shot, congrats.
The sky's reflection on the water shouldn't be lighter than the sky itself.
There's a halo around the rocks.
What a wonderful sight it must have been.
Well done.
Geoff.
