Just now getting around to serious editing and processing of images I shot back in late October in Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks. I've been experimenting with some light warm Orton overlays and would appreciate your opinions. The larger version is significantly better for assessing the effect. All comments welcome. >=))>

PS: I had a heck of a time finding ES&S . Slipped my mind completely that there was a name change. Shows I need to get over here more often.

The brightest highlites are maybe a hair too bright for me, but other than that this looks terrific, Bill, some fabulous depth and a great scene with good wave action. :wavey:

Beautiful image and the mist adds up to it. The flow of water makes the image dynamic. Might bump up the saturation in greens if it were mine.

Love the comp and leading lines. The water action is excellent and I like the misty BG. The Orton effect must be very light as I really can't tell it's applied. And yes, you do need to come around more often!

Very nice, Bill. I really enjoy the misty look and feel in the bg. The water action is great too.

Love the mood here and the processing. Feel a bit old. The highlights appear blown but work here for me, or at least don't distract.

I like the hazy atmosphere in this scene and the camera position. I only find the background composition lacking a bit in coherence. Some intruders here and there (left and center), but overall it is the atmosphere that makes it work for me.

And with shots like this, you do need to get over here more often.
Another excellent image from your series with this processing. I see Stan's point on the highlights and a little taming there will really balance this out nicely. Excellent comp with great depth, and I really like those colors at the back.

I like your composition Bill and the mist looks good. Just the right amount of water movement too. The photo has a very realistic look to it and I can almost feel the damp air as if I was stood there.

Nice misty filled atmosphere to have with this comp! What feeds this river? I wouldn't figure there would be this much flow in late october.

Chris: From my understanding many of the rivers in this area are spring fed. There had also been some fairly heavy rain storms the two days before we got there.>=))>

Hey Bill. I really like the diagonal flow here - comp is great. I would agree about toning down the highlights of the whitewater on the far side of the river. The WB is a little too warm for me - just a tad, though, and the Orton is subtle enough that it's hard to tell it's there, which I like, since I'm not much of a fan of that effect in most cases for landscapes.

Yes, I also like the depth that the angle and mist give this.

Interesting about the overlays. I've never seen this before that I was aware of. Now something else to research!
