Sunrise alpenglow on Mt Hood from White River. January 2011.

This is an image I've had in my mind since last winter. The elements I was looking for were; sunrise alpenglow on Hood, clear skies, fresh snowfall, and a good amount of water in White River. All of these elements came together beautifully yesterday morning.

Nikon D7000, 12-24 Nikkor Dx, polarizer
0.8 sec at f/16, ISO 100, single exposure

All C&C are always appreciated. Please view large.

This has the look of a perfect winter morning in the mountains. I do wish for a little more neutral hue in the lighter water, but I'm frequently alone in that preference.

Very very beautiful image. Neatly composed frame and the fresh snowfall look lovely. The warm glow on the peak amongst the (rest of) blue tones compliment very well. :toast:

So you were blessed and lucky to find what you have been looking for
for my taste, the general tone might be a little bit blueish

This is such a beauty Scott! The scene is so well composed and I love the cold blue tones and that bit of purple/magenta on the peak.

This is a real winner, Scott! Good exposure and greatly composed.
The colors are wonderful and the snow-covered boulders make for
a strong FG.

WOW, this is LANDSCAPE photography.
Everything works for me.
I'm very envious of such a vistas: here in Trentino is a hell of a job to find something so open with such an interesting BG.

Love the comp and the light on the peak. There's a very nice graphical line up to Mt Hood. I agree w/ Kent on the water highlight color.

I never was thrilled with this view of the mountain as it felt too cut off, but I think you made the best out of it!

I like two foreground snow cover boulders and color counter point between warm afterglow and cool shadow areas.

I recall being there with Marc A a year ago, but we got clouded out :( I am glad you are more fortunate!! Excellent shot. I also like the color palate here. IMO, I would remove that little bit of cloud on the left side, my eye always wants to go there  I also agree with the comments about the water blue hue. :toast:

Thanks to everyone for all of the comments and suggestions. I made a few changes to the image. 1) cropped slightly from the left to remove part of the cloud 2) dodged the cloud a bit to make it lighter and less distracting 3) neutralized a bit of the magenta/blue cast on the water.

Please let me know if this improves the image. Thanks.

I love this comp. It might be a tad too bluish, but I wouldn't change it much. A gorgeous shot.

I prefer the first version, light in the shadows is blue, nothing wrong with presenting it as such, the color on the peak is a nice contrast. Love the composition and flowing water, excellent image!

How do you like the D7000?
