Trying to get a little creative here . . . this is an oxe-eye daisy shot last July in Banff National Park combined with a texture (Soft Light blend mode at 60%) that I downloaded from Shadowhouse Creations. I debated adding some other textures to experiment further, but this worked pretty well for me with just the single texture so I decided to hold off on additional tinkering for now. I greatly appreciate any and all critiques!

Canon 5D Mark II, Tamron 90mm for 1/125 at f/4 (ISO 400).

Charlie, the texture created the vignette-like effect I believe you're referring to. The original image had sort of a mustard green background that was pretty uniform . . . not bad, not terribly appealing. When I overlaid the texture as a layer in photoshop above the original image, the flower popped through but, aside from a slight change in color, the texture essentially replaced the original background.

I'm just starting to experiment with these myself . . . this image only required about 5 minutes of playing around, but I tried another image and gave up after 2 hours of unsatisfactory effort!

Phil, I think the texture overlay adds a nice dimension to your image and showcases the flower. These textures are very fun to work with, and yes, they can be challenging. I've used several from Shadowhouse Creations and have been very pleased with the results. The end result is up to you and I believe you've done a nice job on this one. Very nice.
